TO SAVE LITTLE TOWNS
Podporozhsky region is the most distant one in Leningrad region: Podporozhe is 285 km away from Saint-Petersburg. Nevertheless, investment projects are actively realized and old enterprises are re-arisen here.
Historically, Podporozhsky region is an industrial one. Last year two city-forming enterprises celebrated their anniversaries. Podporozhsky Mechanical Plant was 60 years old. Podporozhsky Bridge Ferro-Concrete Constructions Plant celebrated its 50th anniversary. Svir power and timber plant and Svir shipyard played an important role in the regional economics. All these plants had great difficulties during the reform period. In spite of that, the plants managed to save the main thing -personnel, industrial base, relations to suppliers and markets. All those things which made present increase possible.
