Industry in the Leningrad Region is made up of several sectors, including nationally important non-ferrous metals, the pulp and paper sector, the chemical industry, engineering, and the construction materials industry.
The industrial enterprises of the Leningrad Region produce a wide assortment of industrial and technological products including petrol, diesel fuel, mineral fertilizers, aluminum, industrial wood, cellulose, paper, cardboard, machines, devices, and construction materials. In addition, there is a wide assortment of consumer goods, such as furniture, fabrics, clothing, and foods.
Latest Industrial Growth Figures
The total index of industrial production for the enterprises in 2004 is 110,3%, for large and medium-sized enterprises 110,1%. Growth was observed in 8 of the 10 main industrial sectors of the regional economy.
The highest rate of growth was observed in instrument production and the engineering-metal working industry – over 1,6 times higher than the previous year. The following industries remained stable: the chemical and petrochemical industry, the food industry, the timber, wood working and paper industry, the fuel industry, the electric power industry and the building materials industry. |
